Sam Portlock

Sam was the third successive 2s Captain to evolve from the first name on the team sheet to the leader on the pitch. Without being spectacular, he did everything right at the back and could make things happen going forward simply with a few touches on the ball and sheer willpower. Some good team performances in both terms kept the recently promoted 2s safely in Division 1.

Below is Sam's best team over his year as Captain.

Luke Osborn

"arguably one of the best shot stoppers I’ve ever played with and great distribution"

Mike Elliot

"was a hard worker for the team and was versatile at playing at either full back position or even CDM"

Sam Portlock (Captain)

Harry Creighton

"vocal, aggressive and didn’t shy away from a header or a tackle"

Herbie Glennon

"very confident full back, good on the ball, good at getting back and forward"

Tom Horton

"strong in the air and good athletic abilities getting back and forward"

Andy Kean

"comfortable on the ball in the middle of the pitch, had both a good pass and good shot on him as well"

Rob Maughan

"a full-back's nightmare, came up with an assist or a goal the majority of times that he played"

Thomas Morgan

"strong, athletic and the ability to let off a shot anywhere in the final third."

Jordan McWilliam

"he was basically a Duracell bunny, his tireless work rate paid dividends particularly towards the end of games when defences were tiring"

Josh Meredith

"strong and physical forward who would often bully CBs when given the chance and deceptively quick over 10 yards"
